What patients usually book for

Symptoms and cycle changes

Hot flushes, night sweats, sleep changes, mood changes, brain fog, vaginal or urinary symptoms, changing periods or other concerns around hormonal change.

Treatment option discussions

A doctor-led conversation about your symptoms, medical history, preferences, risks and whether hormonal or non-hormonal options may be appropriate.

Preventive health and follow-up

Health checks, screening conversations, bone and heart health considerations, medication review, referrals and review appointments where needed.

Urgent symptoms: Symptoms can have causes other than menopause. Seek urgent care for chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, stroke symptoms, fainting, heavy bleeding, severe pelvic pain, thoughts of immediate self-harm, or symptoms that feel severe or rapidly worsening.

Preparing for your appointment

What to bring

  • A list of symptoms, how long they have been happening and what affects them.
  • Dates or patterns of recent periods if relevant.
  • Current medicines, supplements, allergies and previous hormone treatments if any.
  • Relevant history such as migraines, blood clots, cancer history, heart disease, smoking, surgery, pregnancy or breastfeeding.

When to book a longer appointment

Please book a longer appointment for menopause or perimenopause concerns, especially if symptoms are complex, you want to discuss treatment options, or you have other health conditions to consider.

What happens after the appointment

Follow-up and referrals

Your GP may discuss lifestyle measures, hormonal or non-hormonal options, tests or screening where clinically appropriate, follow-up timing, or referral if specialist input is needed.

Common questions

Do I need blood tests to discuss menopause?

Not always. Menopause and perimenopause are often assessed through symptoms, cycle pattern, age and medical history. Your GP will discuss whether tests are useful for your situation.

Can I talk about hormone therapy?

Yes. Your GP can discuss possible benefits, risks, alternatives and whether hormonal or non-hormonal options may be appropriate for your individual health history.

Should I book a long appointment?

Yes. A longer appointment gives enough time to discuss symptoms, risks, preferences, preventive health and follow-up planning.
